Vancouver, BC – January 17, 2025 – The Clean Energy Association of British Columbia (CEBC) welcomes the Government of British Columbia’s renewed commitment to clean energy, economic growth, reconciliation, and affordability as outlined in recent ministerial mandate letters. These priorities reflect the importance of increasing and diversifying electricity generation, streamlining permitting processes, and strengthening collaboration with First Nations and industry — critical steps toward achieving a clean, competitive economy that benefits all British Columbians.
“The Government of British Columbia has demonstrated strong leadership in accelerating cost-effective clean energy development while fostering economic growth and environmental stewardship,” said Kwatuuma Cole Sayers, Executive Director of CEBC. “Frequent calls for power, improved permitting processes, and strategic regulatory efficiencies will help position B.C. as a leader in the transition to a low-carbon future. CEBC and our members look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Province to advance clean energy opportunities that create jobs, support reconciliation, and power sustainable growth.”
CEBC is encouraged by key priorities outlined in the mandate letters, including:
- Expanding Clean Energy Generation – Increasing electricity generation through frequent competitive calls for power in collaboration with BC Hydro, First Nations, and the renewable energy sector, ensuring a diverse and reliable energy supply for B.C.’s growing economy.
- Streamlining Permitting & Approvals – Improving the timing and transparency of permitting processes to accelerate the deployment of clean and low-carbon energy infrastructure, while maintaining B.C.’s world-leading environmental standards.
- Enhancing Regulatory Efficiency – Advancing targeted exemptions for wind power and other clean energy projects where environmental assessments are duplicative, ensuring that regulatory processes enable, rather than delay, critical energy investments.
- Strengthening Economic & Climate Policy Alignment – Identifying innovative solutions to reduce emissions, minimize cost burdens for businesses and families, expand trade opportunities, and support the clean energy sector’s long-term growth.
As British Columbia moves forward with BC Hydro’s 2024 call for power, the Province is taking decisive steps to meet growing electricity demand with sustainable, affordable energy solutions. CEBC and its members are eager to continue working in partnership with the Government of B.C., First Nations, and industry stakeholders to advance policies that unlock investment, create jobs, and drive the clean energy transition.
